What is Okalocal?
Okalocal was created by a group of friends who live, work and play in Okaloosa County and who are crazy proud to say so.
We know that a lot of people see our little piece of paradise as a vacation spot or a duty post, but for those of us who call it home, there is no place we'd rather be.
With the world's most beautiful beaches and the some of the South's best fishing, we are proud to call ourselves the Okalocal Nation.
So, if you are just visiting, we ask you to please be respectful, pick up your trash and don't try to figure out the shortcuts. And take some time to really get to know what makes this area as special as it is, we think you'll be glad you did.
The Okalocal Nation
Beaches
White sand. Emerald green water. The most beautiful beaches in the world. We all own the beach (yeah, we said it) and sincerely hope our great great grandchildren will be able to say the same. So please - 1) Be nice and share. 2) Don't put out your cigarette butts in the sand. 3) Respect the flags. Seriously, we're trying to save your life.
The Eglin Reservation
Known to locals as The Reservation. 250,000 acres of pristine wilderness owned by Eglin AFB and open for public use (with a permit). Without it and the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Northwest Florida might have become the overdeveloped mess that is South Florida. So our sincere thanks for that....
Fishing
Fishing isn't just a past time here. It's a way of life. Going back through generations of local families who pulled their boats up to the Destin Harbor with the day's catch and are still doing it today. So, we believe that fish should always be eaten fresh. And if you don't know what that means, then get yourself down here for Friday supper.
The Military
We love these guys (and gals). There isn't a group of people more loyal, more dedicated, more genuine, than the men and women serving in our military. And we are blessed to have so many of them here, both active duty and retired. So while you've had our backs all this time, allow us to return the favor. Whatever you need. Enough said.
Local Business
The lifeblood of our community. These are the local businesses, some who have been here for generations. They bring the community. They bring the customer service. The bring the unique flavor that makes Okalocal, well Okalocal. So please, make an effort to support these folks. Thank you in advance. From the Okalocal Nation.
